Currently, Implant Dentistry is not a recognized specialty in British Columbia. Dr. Liang, through a rigorous examination process, has earned the credentials of Diplomate, American Board Of Oral Implantologiy / Implant Dentistry. Find more information about these credentials here: https://www.aboi.org/ . Implant dentistry certainly requires a much higher level of training than what is currently provided in dental schools. Please Note: Our College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia, the regulatory body for dentists, dental therapists and certified dental assistants in BC, disallows advertising and prohibits dentists from announcing their credentials and expertise in this field, for fear of confusing the public into thinking that the advertiser is a specialist. The problem we, as a larger community, currently face is that recognized dental specialists are not also specialists in implant dentistry. In fact, many dental specialists have minimal if any formal training at all in implant dentistry. The unknowing public may be mistaken in assuming that an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist, as an example, is an expert in dental implants. This may be an incorrect assumption. Unfortunately, the current advertising bylaws from our college do not aid the public in their search for the best clinician to serve their needs. So consumer beware!
