Tooth Extractions Service In White Rock, BC & South Surrey, BC

Tooth Extractions

Whenever possible, our professionals will work hard to repair a damaged tooth with a crown, filling, or root canal, but if the damage is too severe or threatens the health of the surrounding teeth, extraction may be the best course of action. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth, or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

At the time of extraction, our team will have to numb your tooth, jawbone and gums that surround the location with an anesthetic. Throughout the extraction procedure you will feel a great deal of pressure. This is from the procedure of securely rocking the tooth in order to broaden the socket for elimination. You feel the pressure without discomfort as the anesthetic has actually numbed the nerves stopping the transfer of pain, yet the nerves that send pressure are not exceptionally influenced. If you do feel discomfort at any time throughout the extraction, please notify us right away. Some teeth need sectioning. When a tooth is so securely anchored in its socket or the root is rounded and the socket cannot broaden enough to eliminate, there is a very common procedure for the solution. Our team merely cuts the tooth into areas then eliminates each area one at a time.

The elimination of a single tooth can result in issues connected to your chewing capability, issues with your jaw joint, and moving teeth, which can have a significant effect on your dental health. To prevent these problems, our professional team will go over all available options to the extractions in addition to replacing of the removed tooth. Each case is different, which is why we will create an personalized treatment plan for your extraction. We help many patients achieve long-term relief from pain and other symptoms by extracting infected teeth. We can extract, prepare, and replace your tooth all in Smile Dental Implant Center.

If the tooth has been damaged or has decayed to the point it can not be repaired, it is best to have the tooth extracted to maintain or improve your oral health.
Local anesthetic numbs the area around the tooth. Once the area is completely devoid of feeling, our dentist will begin the extraction process. After increasing the size of the socket around the affected tooth, our dentist will pull the tooth from side to side until it is loose enough to extract.
The local anesthetic will prevent you from feeling pain but you may feel uncomfortable pressure from the tooth being maneuvered and then extracted.
A small stitch may be required to stop the bleeding. If a stitch is not required, our dentist may instruct you to bite down on a cotton pad to stop the bleeding. You are free to go after that.
Tooth extractions are a very common and routine procedure considered to be very safe. However, as with all procedures there is a possibility of side effects and complications. Side effects are generally very mild and most find they subside very quickly after finishing the extraction.
Some side effects include:
  • Swelling around the area where the tooth was extracted
  • Tenderness in the gums
  • Stiffness in the jaw
  • Mild pain
  • Light bleeding
Most of our treatments are covered by a majority of insurance companies. For a more detailed explanation of your coverage please call your service provider.
If you suspect you need a dental extraction, contacting Smile Dental Implant Center is the best way to get a definitive answer.
About 3 days after your tooth extraction, your gums will begin to heal and close around the removal site. And finally, 7-10 days after your procedure, the opening left by your extracted tooth should be closed (or almost closed), and your gums should no longer be tender or swollen.
Avoid rinsing or spitting forcefully for 24 hours after the extraction to avoid dislodging the clot that forms in the socket. After 24 hours, rinse with your mouth with a solution made of 1/2 teaspoon salt and 8 ounces of warm water. Do not drink from a straw for the first 24 hours.
Generally speaking, you should avoid eating anything for 12 hours prior to the surgery. This can help prevent nausea during and after the procedure. If you are having a local anesthetic, you may not need to fast as long so be sure to inquire before the treatment.
